What is your favorite restaurant & where is it?
I don’t have a specific restaurant, but I do love seafood boils. I grew up near the beach and crab was always a big family meal we shared around the table, so I love going to seafood restaurants and eating with friends and family.
You are a Team-Lead on the Quality Engineering team. Can you tell us a bit more about how the quality and reliability of our solutions are tested before they reach our customers?
Our goal is to test PointCentral products and features as if we are the end user. What actions might they take? What issues might they encounter? Do our customer-facing teams have the tools necessary to support use of our products and features? We must also ensure that our features meet the requirements laid out by Product Management in the specifications, and that large accounts and/or stress don’t cause the feature to fail or become non-performant. We are always working to better imitate real customer accounts in our testing environments, since it’s not possible to create test accounts as large as those that exist in production today!
What is the most rewarding part of your role?
My team works to certify and release new features to our customers. This requires extensive testing and bug reporting. It’s always a relief to know an issue is found before it impacts the end user. My team is diligent about tracking down issues and working with the development team to resolve them in a timely manner. It’s rewarding to see a new feature be well received by beta testers.
What is the most challenging part of your role?
When a bug does impact our customers, my team is responsible for reproducing the issue in our testing environment, as well as testing any workarounds or fixes introduced by the development team. This is an urgent task that requires careful attention to detail and timeliness.
You are passionate about allyship and inclusivity. What strategies do you use to foster a culture that embodies these values within your team?
I co-lead the Allyship alarm.community group, currently under Alarm.com’s Women in Tech initiative, soon to be tied to Alarm.com’s Belonging initiative. Our goal is to educate Alarm.com employees on how to be advocates for their under-represented or marginalized co-workers, and to learn more about what it means to create a more inclusive space and environment in the industry.
